“Let a bear shit in the woods” – Jill Robinson MBE, Dr med vet hc, Hon LLD Founder & CEO http://www.animalsasia.org
The formidable Ms Robinson doesn’t mince words, and she has a point, a simple, powerful point: let nature be nature. Refreshingly, her words resonated at a conference on the Sixth Mass Extinction in California, last Monday (April 30, 2018).
I have looked up to Jill throughout the duration of my life as an advocate for both the salvation and cessation of horrific abuse of Asiatic black bears, and pure, undeterred strength. Sometimes, the truth is very simple. It is ironic that it takes such effort for it to be heard.
Enjoy a gallery of rescued bears at the Vietnam Bear Rescue Center (Tom Dao National Park). As noted in this website, the difference between a sanctuary and a zoo is immense, and perhaps some day, South Korea might wish to preserve her mythological “mother: …rather than continually, blatantly, and arrogantly exploiting her.
As someone specializing in this matter for a decade, I feel reluctant hope in balance with cautious encouragement in regard to Korea’s current actions, choices, statements made by officials, and budget choices. HOPE is the best of things.
I personally feel a bear should be allowed to shit in the woods.
